Learn to say have and have not in Tamil
உண்டு(undu), இல்லை(illai)
உண்டு denotes presence while illai denotes absence. Sometimes instead of உண்டு we can also say இருக்கு(irukku), இருக்கிறது(irukkiRadhu)
So to say, there is and there are we use உண்டு while to say there is not or there are not we say இல்லை. In the previous lesson, you would have seen some negative answers start with illai.
இங்கே பசு இருக்கிறது. Is there a cow?
அங்கே நாய் இருக்கா? Is there a dog there?
அங்கே நாய் இல்லை. There is not dog there.
அங்கே வாழைமரம் இருக்கா? Is there plantain trees there?
அங்கே வாழைமரம் இல்லை. There are no plantain trees there?
அது உப்பா? is that salt?
இது உப்பில்லை. this is not salt
இது பொன் இல்லை. This is not gold.
இது பை இல்லை. This is not a bag.
