Lesson 3 - Learn Hindi vowels part 2
In the previous lesson you saw how अ(a) and आ(aa) and the vowel sign for the long vowel (आ). Most of the time the independent vowel is used if it occurs at the start of a word but if occurs with a consonant then the vowel sign is used.
So aam(आम - mango)
while kaam is written काम (means work)
Other vowels which have the shape of 3 are u and oo.
उ - is u as in put(number 3 with a horizontal bar on it.)
ऊ - is oo as in shoot.(number 3 with a horizontal bar and an additional loop)
उमर - umar (means age)
ऊपर - oopar (means top/up)
Note:
म - is ma
प - is pa
र - is ra
क - is ka
ल - is la
So read the following words
अमर(means immortal/eternal), कल(yesterday/tomorrow),कमर(means
waist), कमल(lotus), राम(a name), काम
(work), उमर(age), ऊपर(up/top),आम(mango),मा(mother), पार(cross/across), लाल(red),
मामा(uncle), पापा(daddy), लाला(poppy flower/ sometimes used for respect like gentleman or
before names like लाला लजपतराय, लाला हंसराज etc like Mr. in English)
We can also see the vowel signs for u and oo.
